Faithfulness to Ask

“The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill Him, and three days after being killed, He will rise again! But the disciples did not understand what Jesus was saying and were afraid to ask Him.” Mark 9:31-32

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are My ways your ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

We have the benefit of knowing about Good Friday and Easter. (Yes, we are ultimately blessed) We have the benefit of the Great Good News of Jesus’ resurrection. We are saved by that death. We are made alive by that resurrection.

Nevertheless, God’s ways are still beyond us. The paradox of an eternal God taking on the limited, temporary flesh and blood is honestly far beyond us even as we benefit from it. That God, motivated by love and mercy, would do such a thing is higher than the highest of thoughts, deeper than the deepest of devotions and beyond words to give an ample explanation.

When Jesus was telling His disciples where their journey with Him was leading they were “afraid to ask Him” what they couldn’t understand. “Afraid to ask” - was it because they were afraid He would judge them unfaithful? “Afraid to ask” - was it because they didn’t agree that Jesus should have to die in order to faithfully complete His mission? “Afraid to ask” - was it because it sounded like Jesus was talking in some foreign language? “What did He say? Oh, never mind.”

When we don’t understand something in the Scriptures, let’s not be afraid to ask for a conversation. There is no judgment on people asking honest, faith-seeking questions. If we have a disagreement on the direction which our faith seems to be leading us, let’s not be afraid to discuss it together so we can more fully discern where God is leading us?

We are the Body of Christ together! Let’s talk about everything without fear.

Welcoming Faithfulness “Jesus took a little child and put the child among them…” Mark 9:36

I want to say, “everyone loves all children.” I want that to be true, but I know it is not. Not everyone and not every society loves the children. Not everyone values every one of the smallest among us.

Faithful with the Trusting

“Then Jesus took a little child and put it among them, and taking the child in His arms…” Mark 9:36

Faithful Submission

“Then they came to Capernaum and when He was in the house Jesus asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’ They were silent for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.” Mark 9:33-34

Faithful Submission

“Submit yourselves therefore to the Lord.” James 4:7

 Faith From Above

“These conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you?” James 4:1

Living Faith in Small Things

I love the message of this song by Josh Wilson. You can find it on YouTube.

It’s a Momma singing songs about the Lord.

Living Faith Works Out

“So, faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” James 2:17
