The Church in Antioch

“Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews.” Acts 11:19 (New International Version (NIV)

The story of Stephen lives on today in the Bible. Stephen was killed because of fear. It was a fear of the message he carried that recognized God’s love for us as evidenced by Jesus coming to save us. Even today this message is frightening to those who don’t understand this love.

Recently we have seen Christians persecuted in the Middle East, South America and the Far East. It is troubling to hear of this persecution but we must realize that man left to his own devices generally can be led astray. Human nature is not always pretty and we are easily led to sin. It is only through recognition of the love that God portrays that we understand the beauty of life. So, as I close I implore you to pass on the love God sends to you to another who might not be aware of this great gift.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father thank You for your great gift of Christ and the love He displayed and represented to us. Help us to love our neighbor and give them a reason to seek out Christ.

Amen
