"Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, "Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? "Mark 7:5 (KJV)

"Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, "Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? "Mark 7:5 (KJV)

So, I'm sure at this point, Jesus had a “look”on His face when He heard this question. Can you see it. He knew the question before they asked it. He had the answer before the question was asked. Jesus broke tradition.

The Pharisees and scribes were so caught up in their "traditions" they missed the Messiah. They had a system. They had a job. A money paying job. Jesus came and turned their world upside down. So, in their attempt to stop him, they chose to ridicule Him in the form of a question. And Jesus knew this. Jesus can see into any man's heart and know what is that man's intent.

This had nothing to do with unwashed hands. Nor eating bread in filth. This was about their society and lifestyles. This is about the sin of being religious without faith. We used to use the term "going through the motions". Many will do this type of religion. Many will claim faith but have none. Many have in previous generations. Where are you in the world of change Jesus brings into your life?

Dear God, Hep me be faithful to Your word and what You would have us do in our daily lives. Amen
