“When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13—Jeanne Palumbo

“When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13—Jeanne Palumbo

I have always liked to play hide and seek. That is, up to a point. There is an anticipation and an excitement for the moment when I look behind the couch, and “There you are! I found you!” But it stops being fun if the person has hidden so well that I can’t find them. So, truth be told, I prefer the game, “Hide, Seek and Find.” (But then I also prefer “catching” over just “fishing.”)

In Jeremiah 29:14 the Lord says, “I will let you find Me.” Now that sounds like good news to me. The Lord, for Whom my soul thirsts, is a God Who wants to be found around every corner, in every relationship, in our hearts and in our world.

Sometimes we’re living in the wrong direction. But God’s Word calls us to turn around and return to the One Who is for us and not against us.

Sometimes we’ve closed our ears and filled our lives with the discordant music of a world without God’s love and grace and truth. There is a losing in the life lived that way. Nevertheless, God wants to be found. In Jeremiah 29:12 God promises, “When you call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will hear you.”

I am reminded of the narrative of Moses. When he was drawn to that burning bush, God spoke to him. “I have heard the groaning... I have remembered My covenant... I will free you from your burdens... And deliver you from slavery... I will redeem you with an outstretched arm... I will take you as My people and I will be your God...” (Exodus 6:2-8) God not only wants to be found when we seek after God. God gets right in our way sometimes so we will stumble over the Holy Presence.

God is most clearly found in Jesus, Who hears our groaning, Who remembers all the promises He made, Who carries our burdens and frees us from the weight of our sin. He redeems us by His arms outstretched on the Cross. He makes us the children of God.

Seek the Lord

Find God in Jesus.
