I think it would be so cool to get to hear God speak aloud. Of course, that’s because I imagine Him saying something awesome that will make me feel great or revealing some ancient mystery to me. It would be pretty mortifying if the reason He spoke aloud was to interrupt me and tell me to listen.

Poor Peter. Scripture reports that he began babbling some nonsense because they were all afraid and didn’t know what else to say or do. I’m not as bold or out-spoken as Peter (traits I actually do admire and wish I possessed) but he and I do have something in common . . . a lack of patience.

In staff meeting each Monday the Dwelling in the Word is read aloud and then we are all supposed to sit in silence for 90 seconds and think quietly before we begin to speak. Ninety seconds takes longer than you might think (at least when you are sitting there quietly waiting for it to pass.) That experience and this Scripture make me wonder how often God would like to interrupt me and tell me to listen.

Lord, please teach me to wait on You. Amen.

Prayer Concern: That people (beginning with me) would be better listeners.
