Faithful with the Trusting

“Then Jesus took a little child and put it among them, and taking the child in His arms…” Mark 9:36

In a time when people who have positions of authority and trust have been revealed to be unfaithful in that position this story stands out to me. Jesus is absolutely trust worthy… worthy of trust. There is nothing that Jesus did that was not life-sustaining, life-giving, health promoting. The child who was taken into His arms was absolutely and completely safe. That child trusted himself or herself into the arms of Jesus. The parents of that child rightfully trusted Jesus to bless their beloved one.

As followers of Jesus we are responsible and accountable to the trust which people place in us. God give us the faithful integrity to honor and respect those who give themselves into our arms. God gives us the wisdom and gentleness to hold the beloved ones who are given into our responsibilities and ministries. We dare not take advantage of them lest they be hurt and the Name of Jesus be damaged. We dare not twist their trust to our own pleasure or power or position. We are called to live transparent lives which serve the ones who give us the gift of their trust. It cannot be stated any clearer than that.

When someone tells you of their hurting places in confidence, what will you do with that information?

When someone is vulnerable with you, how will you respond?

When someone is weak how will you use your strength?

Gracious, loving God, build us up in faithfulness as we receive the trust given to us. Inspire us to be Your presence and to act in humble service which builds up, strengthens, honors and values all those who come to us.
