I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints; but let not them turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him: and shall set us in the way of his steps.

 

The opening verse is very interesting. As a reader of this psalm, I question if I actually hear the Lord when he speaks to me through the Spirit. Do you also question that? And in the same verse, the writer asked the Lord not to have his people turn to "folly". This equates to an unwise action or foolishness. Remember, the fool has said in his heart there is not God. Folly is something to be avoided.

The reassurance that salvation is near to us to revere and fear the Lord. We pray for His glory to be in our land. The writer gives us truth that righteousness, mercy, and truth, coming for heaven, shall be given from the Lord to the land in which we dwell in. This is a strong statement, but it too is true.

The last verse shows us the character of God. He goes before us in our daily walk. We are to follow him. He will lead us in our lives. I tell people to walk with confidence in their lives knowing the Lord has gone before them. This verse verifies it. This is the best "fact check" anybody who follows Jesus can have. Jesus goes before us on the path we take.

Lord, be our guide in this life that we too may be with you in the next one. Amen!
