Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow your righteous laws.
I have suffered much;
preserve my life, LORD, according to your word.
Accept, LORD, the willing praise of my mouth,
and teach me your laws.
Though I constantly take my life in my hands,
I will not forget your law.
The wicked have set a snare for me,
but I have not strayed from your precepts.
Your statutes are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart.
My heart is set on keeping your decrees
to the very end.
Several years ago, we visited the grounds of The McDonald Observatory in the Big Bend area of Texas. That evening, we went to a “Star Party”, where they do a “Sky show” of the constellations in view that evening.
It was Dark. It was very dark. No moon that night, nor any habitation within several miles.
As we inched our way up to the viewing area, the only lights to guide us were very small! I was reminded of the Psalmist’s words about A “…lamp unto my path. . . .”
The psalmist illustrates their trust in God, to guide them on the Proper path.
Dear Lord, help us to remember that you are our guiding light in all the paths we may need to travel in our lives.
