Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

Christ leaves his disciples with the Holy Spirit to be with them as he returns to Heaven. The Holy Spirit is also with us through our lives. The Holy Spirit is a constant presence that will comfort and lead us.

In the Nicene Creed, we state that “We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.”. The Council of Nicaea wrote their Creed in 325 AD, which ended with “We believe in the Holy Spirit” similar to the Apostles Creed. In 381 AD, the Council of Constantinople added the text we currently use and clarified the Holy Trinity.

The Holy Spirit was at the beginning of time and will be until the end of time. The Holy Spirit is with us always.

Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Give us comfort, healing and guidance as we navigate our time in this world. Amen.
