Then Jesus said to His disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you “There he is!” or here he is!” Do not go running after them. For the Son of Man in His day, will be like the lightening which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.

 

Two short verses in Luke, but they say a lot. Jesus was warning His disciples not to get caught up in what you will hear about His return. There will be people out there telling rumors and sensational claims about how and when Jesus is coming back.

Throughout history, there have been many people who try to predict when Jesus is coming back to earth. They tell of all kind of things that will happen so we will know it’s time. Jesus warns us, not to believe people that think they know. Only God knows when Jesus will come and take all of His followers back to heaven with Him.

In the meantime, we much remain faithful followers of Jesus, and not be swayed by all the things we see going on around us. Focus on how you are living your life and doing what Jesus commanded us to do. Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. Don’t judge other people. Act justly, Love mercy, Walk humbly. Jesus’s return will be sudden, unmistakable and visible to all. Be ready.

Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for all you do for us every day and your many blessing. Keep us on the right track and we wait for Jesus return.
