1The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it, 2 for he has founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.

3 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? 4 Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false and do not swear deceitfully. 5 They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from the God of their salvation. 6 Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

We try to make things difficult. I think it is because we want things to be challenging so that we can have an out. I am the king of putting off projects in my house. And more times than not, it ends up being much easier and faster than I had built up in my mind. I just didn't want to do it. So, I made it a bigger challenge than it really was.

We do the same with our relationship with God. It really is simple.

God is God of all because he made all of creation and us. Simple.

This psalm talks about how we get right with God so that we can ‘ascend the hill of the Lord’. We are expected to have ‘clean hands and pure hearts’ and stick to what is true in this world. Oh, just those simple phrases we can twist into all kinds of legalism and stuff that is too hard to do.

But fortunately for us, we live on this side of the cross. We benefit from the grace of Jesus. We are already made right (justified) with God through Christ. So, we can just be. Be people of love. Be people of mercy. Be people who are faithful to a God who provides for all His Children.

Don’t make it harder than it is. Live a life of outpouring love. God does the rest.

Father, take my life as Yours and guide me along the path of love, mercy and justice. Amen
