The reading for today is Micah 6:6-8.

6 With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

This is the simplest reading I have seen from the Old Testament in my readings this year. Our God, the God of the universe, the most high God is not demanding. He asks us to study his word, act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with him. In a recent church council retreat Pastor Bev referencing a work by Eric Law, an Episcopal Priest echoed these sentiments. There are many disciples who are silent, merciful and humble that we all can learn from by approaching them for their opinions on how the church can serve humanity at large, in our community and in our church. The strength of the church is the disciples who practice just living, mercy and walk humbly helping their neighbors. They are a gift from God and we need to emulate their purposeful walk and thank God for their example of how to navigate a confusing world.

Let us pray: Lord help us to honor your wishes by listening to all your disciples, hearing even the silent ones to understand and walk with you using their example of acting justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with you. Amen.
