Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally, he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

This judge decided to get justice for the woman for his own purposes. He proclaimed that he did not fear God or any person but was tired of listening to her and also was a little afraid she might attack him. Jesus told this parable to teach his disciples to pray always and never give up. Later in this chapter Jesus said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?”

I know there are times that I pray and pray and don’t seem to get an answer. Sometimes I feel that maybe God is tired of listening to me, and I should stop asking. However, Jesus says that we need to continue to pray without ceasing. God loves us and wants what is best for us in all situations. Maybe the answer to our prayers is not what we expect. Maybe the answer is “no” or “later”. God’s unbelievable love for us should comfort us when we feel we are not getting the answers we want.

Dear God, I pray for all your people who pray and pray without ceasing. I pray for those people who give up and believe you are not listening. Life is hard, Lord, and we don’t always see your plan. Please give us the patience, strength and peace to wait for you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
