A Song of Praise. Of David.
1 I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
4 One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. 5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. 6 They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. 7 They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
I will re-quote. “On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds . . .” The world tries to give us so many reasons not to believe in God. Some College Professors (I had one) teach that Christianity is a myth, like all other myths, or that science precludes a Creator. Friends say, “if there was a God, how could he allow this to happen?” The list goes on.
But still, as I grow older, I marvel more and more at God’s creation. I try to be mindful to see God in the seemingly mundane as well as the magnificent. It gets easier!
At family karaoke night, we recently sang “I Believe,” the old one, made famous by Perry Como and written by Drake, Graham, Shirl and Stillman. It says, “Every time I hear a new born baby cry, or touch a leaf, or see the sky, then I know why, I believe.”
Years ago, some rather profound words “came” to me, thanks be to God. They went something like this: So, how do YOU want to find Jesus? He’s made it easy, because he’s everywhere! You can travel down the road to him, and search with your intelligence. You’ll find him in the place . . . where science and wisdom merge. Or, like a babe, you can reach up your hand to my Jesus knowing naught, but that you need Him.”
Dear God, our Creator, thank you for the daily proof of your splendor that you provide. Give us eyes to better see and appreciate Godly beauty. Thank you for being patient with us and slow to anger when we doubt you! Amen!
