Praise the Lord!

Give thanks to the Lord, because He is good; His love is eternal.

Who can tell of all the great things He has done? Who can praise Him enough?

Happy are those who obey His commands, who always do what is right.

Remember me, Lord when you help your people; include me when you save them.

Let me see the prosperity of your people and share in the happiness of your nation, in the glad pride of those who belong to you.

 

Then comes verse six. It changes pace and list all the sins of their ancestors. They did not appreciate all of God’s wonderful acts. The verses list all the mighty things God did for them when they left Egypt, how God supplied them with all their needs. The only thing He commanded of them was to worship Him as the one true God. They had been out of Egypt three days before they started to complain.

The next 36 verses list all their complaints of what they didn’t have. They worshiped false gods continually. God would send hardships to them, they would repent, God would forgive them. They would only worship Him, then they fell back to their old habits of worshipping false idols. This went on for the forty years they wandered in the dessert. They were God’s chosen people, as He had promised Abraham many years earlier. God never breaks a promise; He loves His people unconditionally.

This does end on a positive note. God always forgives His people because of His great love for them. Praise the Lord, the God of Israel; praise Him now and forever.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we are so thankful that You are a loving and forgiving God when we come to you with a repenting heart. Your mercy is new every morning, always giving us a fresh start. Because of Your steadfast love, we give You all of our thanks and praise. Amen
