Having your manner of life excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the matter concerning which they speak against you as evildoers they may, by your good works, as they see them with their own eyes, glorify God in the day of His visitation.

In the religious tradition in which I grew up, the “manner of life” seen by those around you was called your “testimony.” I used to be a legal secretary. I would sometimes type up things related to witnesses and/or to their testimony. Did you know that the Greek word used often in Scripture for witness is the same word used for martyr?

What if you viewed your words and actions before the world as your official, legal, recorded testimony in a court of law? Even more, what if you viewed them as martyrdom? What we say and do each day should announce to the world how we are laying down our life, taking up our cross, and very noticeably following our Lord.

Lord God Almighty, may my testimony bring You glory! Amen.
