14 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Just as I had determined to bring disaster on you and showed no pity when your ancestors angered me,” says the LORD Almighty, 15 “so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid. 16 These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other and render true and sound judgment in your courts; 17 do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,” declares the Lord.
In this passage, God speaks both honestly and tenderly to His people. He reminds them of the consequences of their past unfaithfulness. Yet we see that His message is ultimately one of hope: “I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid.” God’s grace does not ignore our failures—it overcomes them. His desire is to restore us so that our lives reflect His love in the world.
Because God has turned toward His people with mercy, He calls them to live differently: to speak truth, to render honest judgment, to reject plotting evil, and to refuse false oaths. These everyday acts of integrity are the evidence of God’s renewing work. When we live as people of truth and peace, we become signs of God’s faithfulness in a world hungry for both.
Dear God, help us live in truth, seek peace, and reflect your faithfulness in all we do. Strengthen us by your Spirit so that our words and actions honor you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
